I went to check out our newest LYS, in Carolina Forest, last night. I met up with a couple of pals to see what was to be seen at Knit N Purl. It was a lovely shop set up like a fine dress boutique with all black open wood shelving/cabinets. There was a large dining table set up in the back for knitting along with a few glass door hutches filled with yarny goodness. Everything was neatly labled & 3-ring binders were on the shelves with patterns for the yarns she carries. I liked her selection & was pleased to see enough of each color in the cubbies to make a sweater if you wanted. (A pet peeve of mine from a store in NC that never had enough for a sweater. The owner liked jumble cardigans.) Phyllis, K 'n P's owner, was so nice & open to any all suggestions for yarns & patterns to be carried. I think her store has great potential to be the place to shop for yarn. (A convenient location helps here too! Just 15 min from home off of the nice traffic free Hwy 31!)
Terrie & I stayed with a table full of ladies to knit the evening away. Phyllis was so pleased at the turn out, she exclaimed, "Why look at this. We already have a knit night group right here!" Terrie started snickering uncontrollably.
"What? You guys already have a Thurs. night group or something?", said Phyllis.
"Yeah. Mary Beth started one." I told her it was only once a month at the bookstore, so we'd still come the other 3 weeks to the shop for one too.
Gretchen exclaimed, "Oh! You guys must be the group my college son saw! He called me from B&N last month. He said,'Mom. There are a bunch of ladies here knitting & they're not oooolllld!' I told Phyllis we needed to find this group of gals & get 'em in the store!" (Note: Ooops! Guess somebody was trying to study that night, lol.)
Wow. My little group did get noticed by the general public after all.

If you build it... they will come. Now you have a new home for your knitting group. How cool is that?? I wish I could join!!! I would come to every meeting.
How wonderful! Looks like your wish for knitting companions near you is coming true! Now you'll have 2 knit nights. Was there any doubt a wack of knitters would be noticed? We are exotic and wily beasts, rarely seen in the wild but becoming more common.
It is a lovely shop. Do you think you could convince her to add some upholstered chairs, maybe a rocker - like a living room :)
Wahoo!!!!!
Careful what you ask for - pretty soon you'll have knitters coming out of the woodwork! Fun!
That's awesome! Sounds like your little knitting group is going ot be expanding. Woo Hoo. I especially love how the son called his mom. :-)
KIPing (knitting in public) is the way to go! You obviously rocked the B&N that night. Pretty soon you'll have a hundred knitters, they'll come crawling out of the woodwork.
